This is the perfect place to stay if you’re wanting to be close to the centre of Wellington. It’s a 5 minute walk to Cuba St (with its wonderful mix of shops) and a 15 minute stroll to the waterfront, Te Papa, Courtenay Place, the Basin Reserve, Wellington College, Wellington Hospital or Southern Cross Hospital.
Massey University (Wgtn campus), the NZ School of Music, the National War Memorial Carillon and the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior are all just across the road. From our house, we can hear the Carillon chimes - lunchtime recitals are given most days from September to June.
The bus stops just around the corner if your destination is the Stadium, railway station, botanical gardens or the Mt Victoria lookout.
Restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries, design shops, churches, boutique stores and 2nd hand designer clothes shops are all close at hand, and there are at least 5 different movie theatres within easy walking distance – including the Embassy (famous for the Lord of Rings trilogy).
... and then there's Cuba Mall with our much loved Bucket Fountain - the only fountain with its own website. Wellingtonians feel so attached to the Bucket Fountain that when the Council dismantles it for periodic repairs, they've learnt to put up big signs to reassure folk that the fountain will be back soon!
Cuba St is also home to a multicultural mix of eating establishments - you can choose from Malaysian, Indian, French, Italian, Mexican, Turkish, Japanese, Thai and of course Kiwi.
When you reach the end of Cuba St - keep going - and straight ahead you'll find the Town Hall, Civic Square, the Wellington waterfront and of course Te Papa.
